First 6 Hours

After a few botched ideas (such as a caffeine based slow down time to save people game, and an emotional visual novel about exploring the thoughts of and the prevention of suicide) we came to the conclusion of playing up the idea of Joined Together

While Peter took an unadvised discord call while driving, many game ideas and mechanics were discussed. Taking on a different tone than usual, Peter was leading the design and as usual wasn’t always decisive as they like to ask everyone else what their thoughts and input were.

Eventually we agreed on a 2D Shooter with the player using the keyboard to control a heavier ship and the the mouse controlling a second faster ship.

Core game feel is - Player is challenged between having the ships together and apart to complete objectives to survive and reach a high score.

Horizontal

Touhou, but at like, 1/10 the speed (a strategic puzzle bullet hell)

  • And its more a puzzle / action management
  • Adding Momentum, gives weight to the ship

UI - Adding as little distractions as possible (such as the HP bar being on the ship itself)

Energy Viens - making sure joining on something with the cursor looked good and felt good

Sound Design - possibly going with the idea of an acapella styled sfx and bgm where everything is done with human vocals. (It was a misunderstanding at first, but eventually picked up humor and we decided it would be shenanigans to give it a try.)

Level Design - procedurally generated with difficulty and challenge weighted by duration of play
